We are a specialist criminal practice, predominantly in criminal defence work. Howell Hylton Solicitors was established in 1996 and has been working within criminal law and litigation since then.

If you are arrested or have to attend the police station as a voluntary attender then we have an expert team who are able to provide you with specialist advice and representation.

Magistrates Court

We have a number of experienced advocates who frequently appear before Magistrates Court.  If you are charged or have received a Postal Requisition we are able to represent you throughout the proceedings.

Crown Court

More complex and serious cases are dealt with at the Crown Court.  We have experienced litigators and advocates as part of our team who regularly prepare cases and appear before the Crown Court for a wide variety of cases, relatively minor to the most serious.

cost cases (VHCC) specialist fraud work.

Our advice and representation does not terminate in some cases after the conclusion of Magistrates or Crown Court proceedings.  We deal often with Appeal cases before the appellant courts – Crown Court and Court of Appeal.

Our Values & History

Fred Howell joined Peter Hylton in 1996 and Howell Hylton was formed basing itself at an office in Falmouth.  The firm at that time practised in many areas of law, including Criminal Law and Litigation.  Over the years Howell Hylton has gone through many changes to move with the times.

The practice centralised its offices to 24 Cross Street in Camborne in 2003.  This location allowing us to be 5 minutes from Camborne Custody Centre and with easy access to the A30.

There are four directors of Howell Hylton Solicitors - Fred Howell, Robert Eccleston, Elliott Moore and Neil Lewin.  The directors and team at Howell Hylton always aim to provide a quality service and assist.  We are proud to be able to promote our fee earners and support staff who individually and together have a wealth of experience and knowledge when dealing with all types of cases.



We provide a comprehensive range of specialist criminal services from the first police station attendance interview through to representation before the criminal courts. We have many years of experience dealing with demanding and complex allegations. We will act in a professional, confidential and considerate manner when dealing with your case. We endeavour to provide the best service possible for your clients.

We are also accredited to undertaken very high cost complex fraud cases (VHCC accredited). We are one of the only Criminal Practices in this area to hold such an accreditation. These investigations and prosecutions are not isolated to the area of Cornwall and we are very used to working all over the country to assist our clients.

If you are arrested or have to attend the Police Station as a voluntary attender then we have an expert team who are able to provide you with specialist criminal advice and representation. Our Accredited Police Station Representatives and Accredited Duty Solicitors have many years of experience will be able to provide you with the support, advice and representation you need. You are entitled to free and independent advice, therefore there is no cost to you for this service. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. Our specialist criminal lawyers will attend the police station within 45 minutes of being contacted by the police and we are available to speak to your over the telephone.

We also deal with interviews under caution that are conducted outside the police. For example, investigations being conducted by Government Regulated bodies. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience in dealing with investigations and prosecutions of this type. Whilst you may not be entitled to free advice and representation for interview, we are able to offer a fixed fee service.

It is important that you exercise your right to representation for interview under caution, whether this is in a police station or alternative investigative venue. Your choices at this stage will determine how your case progresses and the outcome. It is imperative to have the right advice and representation.

Although the vast majority of our work involves Specialist Criminal Defence work we do prosecute for other agencies, including The Local Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities.
